Waste Water Sewerage

WASTE WATER/SEWERAGE ENGINEERING

HEPC professionals have experience with premier consultancy organisation in the field of wastewater /sewerage engineering particularly in designing new systems, optimising the works after studying the different alternatives including cost estimates, phasing and implementation schedule, for the components such as collection system, conveyance system, pumping, treatment and disposal works. The detailed engineering designs are worked out for the respective system.

The scope of services provided by HEPC professionals in the field of wastewater/sewerage engineering include:

  • Pre-feasibility/Feasibility/Detailed Project Reports
  • Optimum design of wastewater/sewerage systems including inter stage and terminal pumping
  • Detailed design engineering for gravity pipelines, pumping mains, pumping stations
  • Pilot plant studies, process formulation and detailed designing of waste water treatment plants
  • Organisation and staffing pattern
  • Preparation of Operation and Maintenance (O/M) manuals for all systems involved including imparting training to O/M personnel.
  • Minimising Air Pollution around STPs
HEPC professionals also provided services in the following:
  • Site identification studies and soil surveys
  • Vendor drawings review, preparation of specifications and tender documents, bid analysis and recommendations
  • Commissioning
Wastewater/Sewage Collection & Conveyance

HEPC professionals, over the last decade had acquired unparalleled expertise in detailed designing of wastewater/sewage collection and conveyance systems by working on a number of small, medium and large projects in many cities and industrial estates in India. The systems designed by HEPC professionals cover more than 100 km length while detailed engineering design is of the order of 50 km of pipelines of different materials such as glazed stoneware (GSW), Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC), Cast Iron (CI) ranging in diameter from 250 mm to 2000 mm.

HEPC professionals have worked on preparation of a basic study in the initial stages of the projects to select the optimum system, followed by the detail engineering design for the selected system. The collection system is designed for partially full conditions and the pipe diameters worked out are checked for minimum and maximum flow velocities under present and ultimate design conditions. Suitable material for the pipes is selected and pipe bedding is determined depending upon the earth load and live load due to traffic. Ancillary components such as manholes, vent shafts and sewer cleaning equipment are then recommended for the system.

Stormwater Drainage & Disposal
HEPC professionals had carried out designs of storm water drainage and disposal systems for township admeasuring 60 sq.kms. and plot drainage system for airports/ large industrial projects.

Wastewater Treatment & Disposal
Basic studies and concept notes form a very important part of any wastewater treatment scheme. HEPC recognises this fact and insists on conducting in-depth basic studies for any wastewater treatment assignment. Such studies cover review of characteristics of wastewater, flow computations, results of bench scale treatability studies, discharge standards, availability of land, power and skilled operation and maintenance personnel. If found necessary, HEPC professionals recommends pilot plant studies before finalising the design parameters of the recommended treatment scheme.HEPC professionals have generally worked on preparation of process, hydraulic, structural designs and detail engineering for the treatment scheme.

Wastewater treatment schemes engineered by HEPC professionals include wastewater treatment plants of 1,00,000 litres/day capacity to 225 million litres/day (Mld) capacity. Treatment processes recommended by HEPC professionals for various wastewater treatment schemes include conventional activated sludge process, extended aeration process and aerated lagoons and upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors (UASBR). HEPC professionals have also studied generation of sludge gas and its utilisation for power generation, and the reuse of treated wastewater for industrial use, irrigation, gardening and other purposes.

Common Effluent Treatment Plant is one of the best concept evolved and getting more attention during last few decades. Proper knowledge of treatment during collection will substantially reduce the chemical consumption in the CETP. It will also require special insight to understand the pipe material requirement to set up reliable system for considerable time period. Our professionals have developed skills to suggest economical schemes for CETP, with practical aspects.

Best design for plants can not give desired results, if not operated properly. HEPC undertakes studies for upgrading existing wastewater treatment plants. Training of operators for WwTP is most important aspect generally neglected. HEPC gives emphasis on this issue from practical considerations. HEPC also recommends programmes for the training of operation and maintenance personnel of wastewater treatment plants.

Reducing Air Pollutants emanating from WwTPs is the key area of interest and success storeys have been established for two major WwTPs based on Lagoon technology 75 Mld at Ahmedabad.
