SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

HEPC professionals have worked on development of solid waste management projects. HEPC professionals have addressed power generation from SWM. Various issues of urban solid waste management like street cleansing, house to house collection, segregation of waste, final disposal and reuse/ recycling aspects have been studied by HEPC professionals.

The scope of services provided by HEPC professionals in the field of solid waste management include:

  • Pre-feasibility/Feasibility Reports
  • Optimum design of collection systems including transfer station
  • Process formulation and designing of composting, sanitary landfills
  • Organisation and staffing pattern
  • Preparation of Operation and Maintenance (O/M) manuals for all systems involved including imparting training to O/M personnel.
HEPC professionals also provided services in the following:
  • Site identification studies and soil surveys
  • Preparation of specifications and tender documents, bid analysis and recommendations
Solid Waste Collection & Transportation

HEPC professionals, over the last decade had acquired unparalleled expertise in detailed designing of solid waste collection and transportation systems by working on a selected projects in India. The systems designed by HEPC professionals cover more than 6,00,000 population.

HEPC professionals have worked on preparation of a basic study in the initial stages of the projects to select the optimum system, followed by the detail engineering design for the selected system. The segregation of waste at source was conceived by their professionals at early stage and advantages of providing transfer station were proved. Suitable material for the sanitary landfill is selected and thickness is determined depending upon the rainfall to protect solid waste getting washed away. Ancillary components such as vent shafts, leachate collection system and cleaning equipment are then recommended for the system.

Solid Waste Treatment

Basic studies and concept notes form a very important part of any solid waste management scheme. HEPC recognises this fact and insists on conducting in-depth basic studies for any solid waste treatment assignment. Such studies cover review of characteristics of solid waste, quantity computations, results of bench scale treatability studies for composting/ vermiculture etc, disposal standards, availability of land, equipment and skilled operation and maintenance personnel. If found necessary, HEPC professionals recommends pilot plant studies before finalising the design parameters of the recommended treatment scheme.

HEPC professionals have also studied generation of gas and its utilisation for power generation, and the recycling & reuse of solid waste for reclamation use, industrial use and other purposes.

HEPC undertakes studies for upgrading existing solid waste management systems. HEPC also recommends programmes for the training of operation and maintenance personnel of SWM treatment plants. 

Bio-mediacal waste disposal
HEPC professionals have worked on development of bio-medical waste disposal projects, design and installation of Air pollution control equipments. HEPC professionals have established power saving for operation of air pollution control equipments taking advantage of wind pattern, ground profile and other ambient air conditions. Incinerators, as a one of the widely accepted means of bio-medical waste disposal is engineered by HEPC professionals. Auto Clave is also studied by HEPC professionals.
